Emma Moffat is a Cumbrian Writer and Director particularly interested in action and unusual stories from the past. Following a state school education, she read History at Cambridge (where she studied under the official Historian of MI5 for two years) and has a keen interest in warfare, secret intelligence and women’s history.

Currently she is developing a comedy historical TV series FOOLISH with Mighty Pebble Productions and is writing her debut feature film, PAPERCUT, a thriller set in the 1980s as well as co-writing several history-related comedy projects with Briony Redman. Emma’s script for A BATTLE IN WATERLOO won funding from the Bumble Female Film Force competition aimed at female filmmakers. The finished film, which she directed, stars Oscar and BAFTA-nominee Jessie Buckley, had its world premiere at Oscar-qualifying HollyShorts Film Festival and continued its run at various BAFTA and Oscar-qualifying festivals including Underwire Film Festival, Santa Barbara International Film Festival and BFI Flare Film Festival 2020.

As of 2022, Emma is a BAFTA Connect member. She was nominated for the XX Award for Best Female Character at Underwire Film Festival in 2019 and for Best Director at the global Lift-Off Season Awards in January 2020.

Having started out as a Set PA on INCEPTION and worked in VFX on films such as CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER, SKYFALL, and SPECTRE, Emma made her first short film EXPOSURE in 2015 and some micro short comedy films. She was chosen in 2016 for Wieden + Kennedy’s creative incubator scheme and was shortlisted for the worldwide Jameson First Shot competition in 2017. In 2018 she assisted Christopher McQuarrie on MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - FALLOUT.
